Quick Airplane Unit
Typically something like this would take a week or so, but here's the story: Mike went to California for a few days and won't be back until Monday night (LATE), at the moment of writing this we are/were all bored out of our skulls...just knowing that Daddy is/was gone made it hard to focus and the day seem unbearably LONG.
G-7 started asking questions about planes and in addition to the bazillion other things he's specifically asked to study, he asked if we could read about them next week.
Knowing that Mike will be back Monday night and the plane fascination will be gone with Mike's return, I figured we may as well spend ONE day talking about planes and cementing a tiny bit of information into their brains.
There is a great lesson plan here (puzzle and information by the Smithsonian, this is geared to younger children, but older children can glean information from it too), but that wasn't what I had in mind at this time (Linking to it because it looks great and I don't want to lose the site!)
- Science:Airplane parts, learn about them, learn their names and fill out the worksheet.
- Language Arts: Creative writing, write a paragraph (or longer depending on age) describing your view from a plane
- Geography: Using a blackline map, map Dad's course of travel from home to California. How many miles is it?

- Math: Determine duration of trip
- Math: Build some paper airplanes!! (try something new, like the "dragon")
- Science: different kinds of aircraft

- Math: Planet Math Plane Capacity and Flight math
- Watch: this You Tube small craft flight (I have not viewed this video to the end yet, so preview it first)
- Notebook paper (I totally know it's a space shuttle but it's as close as I could find! HA! It oughta be fairly easy to make this in Word with the proper clipart, I suppose I'll work on that this weekend) LOOK LOOK LOOK!!! Sweet Melanie over at Notebooklearning.com made these AIRPLANE pages for me (and you too!!).

- Science: Science Kids, how do airplanes fly
- Art, misc: Here is some fun airplane clipart that you may find useful
- For a great complete study check out Avkids
- Airplane shapebook/coloring page
