The Story about Ping
Oh goodness! Is it time for school again already?! I suppose it is, but I am still on a mental vacation and on California time to boot!
Since this year we add a new student to the mix, E-5 is starting kindergarten, I thought it would be fun to start out the year with the first FIAR book we ever rowed. So this is what G-7 and E-5 will be studying for the next week.
The Story About Ping!
Math:
Ping's family HSS
Ducks in a pond tlsbooks (K)
Language Arts:
Illustrate the Poem HSS
Science:
ducks worksheet (K-1)
duck worksheet hunting/older children
Buoyancy chart HSS

E-5 thought this was great fun, as a side note we used a C battery rather than a D, since that's what we had on hand. He was so excited to be doing school and is upset that I didn't teach him to read yet!

That is a "candle" built by D-13. They all participated in the flashlight building and he decided to build a candle, he also wants to figure out how to build an actual flashlight and is working on that now.
History/Geography:
Great Wall of China HSS
China Outline Map EL
Flag of China EL or here ABCteach
Art:
Drawing water
instructions for making a chinese lantern (ABCteach)
write your name in Chinese
Internet assignment:
ducks worksheet (pdf)
ducks (pdf)
use this website for the above worksheets
Go Along:
Here is a Mulan Workpack (we typically try to find a go along in movie form, obviously Ping can go so many different directions...)
(Stay tuned as we update)

That sounds like so much fun. I bet D is building as he has an inquisitive mind.
M looks like she loves teaching her little brother. The older ones must be great help. Teach that boy to read. LOL
We love Ping! I bet you are going to have so much fun with E this year!
I was just reminded of Ping last night as my husband was giving our chickens a whack to get them back in the coop last night! ;)
Ping is a wonderful story, and what a great way to also introduce China and the Olympics.
